Diuris longifolia, the Donkey or Purple Pansy orchid is a small tuberous perennial plant found in the south-western coastal area of W.A. in open, moist forest and woodland areas. It has long channelled, linear leaves and produces pretty purple, yellow and brown flowers from September to November.
This orchids common names are derived from the shape of its petals which look like donkey ears and the colour of its flowers which resemble pansies. There are still good size colonies in W.A. so it’s not currently threatened. The flower is admired for its unique and striking appearance and seen as a symbol of beauty, creativity and individuality.
